The Beach Shack

Living by the beach is a dream for most and we get to live it - some may have holiday beach shacks and some may live the holiday beach shack life on a day to day basis.

Walks along the beach before heading off to work ahhh yes, and who can resist returning home without a shell or two in their pocket I know I can’t that’s what the big glass vase is for and I love seeing that in my home as just that one piece can remind me of my sandy strolls. I love to fill these homes with an abundance of eclectic pieces keeping a few key pieces with lovely clean lines to keep the home sharp and in the moment.

We all know what we find at a beach and what makes a beach shack so when you are pulling it all together don’t be too obvious with your selection of pieces. Rather than using a shell use something that reminds you of a shell for example rocks with crochet on them (they look just like a piece of coral) I spotted these little numbers on Etsy.com. Think textures combined with a neutral base then introduce some stand out pieces of colour, such as a bombe commode or a Ruby Star striped Occassional Chair.

I love an old rustic teak table with some sleek modern chairs and a rustic funky pendant in place to set the ambience and define the humble eating areas this always delights a beach shack with charm.

Use coloured baskets for storage of books and mags, yummy floor cushions and ottomans on the outdoor balconies, daybeds and hammocks. I can see it now a load of coast kids mag readers will be lazing about with a good novel this summer on their beach shack decks. I have searched for some interesting pieces to fill your beach shack with, it is always fun to go to a market, antique shop, or op shop and find one off interesting pieces too. Beach shacks are an evolving, living piece of art that describes the owner they are all so wonderfully unique.
